James Mill was a Scottish historian, economist and philosopher, noted for being the father of John Stuart Mill. George Grote was an English political radical and historian, known for his fervent advocacy for parliament reform in the form of ballot voting, popular representation and short parliament. Included among the objections were '5. That the present frank and manly manner of open voting, is preferable to the mystification of the ballot', '13. That the ballot will not entirely prevent bribery', '15. That the ballot does not succeed in America', and others. Bound in contemporary quarter cloth and paper-covered boards.
